The harvest of Aceite Farga Milenaria 2021 begins (10/2021)
On October 6, the olive harvest to produce oil certified under the Millenary Farga Oil Guarantee Brand began, by the oil brands belonging to the Territori Sénia Association.
This year the first to start was the Godall Cooperative and the first olive tree to be harvested was the "Mil·lènia" olive tree, which this year received the AEMO Award for the best monumental olive tree in Spain. The olive tree is of the Farga variety and is located in Godall (in the Catalan part of the Sénia Territory), very close to the ancient Roman Via Augusta. Its trunk perimeter at 1.30 m from the ground reaches 7.04 m, being the largest in the village and one of the largest in Catalonia. According to the dating carried out by the Polytechnic University of Madrid, its year of origin is 1018, so it is now 1,003 years old. The name of the olive tree was chosen by the students of the public school of Godall, within the activities of the European Heritage Stories Award of the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
Next week and the following week all the other companies will start harvesting their olives, as a first step, followed by immediate transport to the mill and, once there, milling on the same day. Before being stored, all the oil batches are filtered and sent to laboratories and tasting panels recognized by the IOC (International Olive Council). Only the oils that exceed all the requirements demanded by the Regulation of the Guarantee Brand (superior in some points to those of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil) will be bottled and labeled within the same one.
Expectations for this harvest are quite positive, much higher in quantity than last year's, and the quality is also expected to be extraordinary.
